It represents the top international recognition for quality in extra virgin olive oils
Les Cabanes extra virgin olive oil, of the Sant Isidre Farm Coop in Juncosa, has won third prize in the Ripe Fruity category of the International Olive Council (IOC)’s Mario Solinas contest.
The Mario Solinas awards represent the top international recognition for quality in extra virgin olive oils. There are various international competitions, but the IOC’s is considered the highest level. It has been held since the 2000-2001 season, in memory and honour of the Italian professor Mario Solinas, one of the most important promoters of extra virgin olive oil analysis.
Its main purpose is to select, among the participating extra virgin olive oils from both hemispheres, the ones which present the maximum organoleptic characteristics in each of the categories established in the rules.
Winning this prize is a great honour for Les Cabanes oil, as it appreciates the oil’s sensory attributes and encourages consumers to recognise it worldwide. This oil forms part of a batch produced in early December, which guarantees that during the whole season, the cooperative works to ensure maximum product quality. Les Cabanes oil has already received 17 awards, including this one, in the last three years. A few weeks ago, it won the gold medal at the Dubai Early Harvest Olive Oil Competition, and it finished the year 2020 in 7th place on the Extra Virgin Olive Oil World Ranking, in Arbequina olive.
